2-26-12 Tag/Technique/Question

Hello scrappers, today I made this fun tag .

I decided to try and use a sharpie to highlight the puffy stickers, which of course they are cute on their on, but I wanted to really bring them out against the rather blah background. The technique I wanted to try was to use dictionary or newspaper, so I cut it into squares and glued them on in a random way. My question is "What am I taking for granted?"

Let me tell you something I learned. I was watching a inking video and the girl was saying how the Ranger Blending Solution gets rid of or makes the ink lighter. So for some reason this stuck in my head. When I was using the sharpie, I slipped and had a big line across the puffy sticker. So I thought why not use the blending solution. It worked! Took it off like magic. Then the swirly puffy sticker at the bottom is more fabric like, and of course I messed that up too. It took a little more work but the blending solution works for that too, Just be sure it is completely dry before using the sharpie again.

2-19-12 Tag/Technique/Question

Todays technique is layering, I put lots of layering and I hope it shows up here. The question is "What is your superpower? lol I responded, basically, that I hope I gave my children the wisdom to have a great life, hence the wisdom card on the front. I tried to somehow relate the card to the back, although some people might not see it, if you read the back you can see why I did some of the things I did on the front.

2-12-12 Tag/Technique/Question

Hello todays tag is all about Valentine's Day. The technique was to make your own flower which I used screening from a tour, paint, microbeads, and stickles. Use the Tim Holtz paper pack, K&Co Ephemera and some other small accessories, the question is "What are you grateful for today?"

1-29-12 Tag/Technique/Question

Todays techinue is buttons, I dug out all these dark, silver and gold buttons that I thought I would never use to make the heart. I guess that goes to show don't throw anything out! The question is "What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?" My response was how when I when I was going through chemo last year, I was so sick one night, I woke my husband up at 3 and he went out and got me some medicine.

1-22-12 Question/Tag/Technique

This weeks question is "What sparks my creativity?" and the technique is using staples. I just went crazy with the staples here, but I like the "Steampunk" kind of look I was going for. I usually don't show the back because a lot of the answers are going to be very personal, but I will this week. I took K&Co ephemera to cover up the back of the staples and in the pack I found the word "Whatever" and that amount sums up what sparks my creativity because I find inspiration every where I go. Could be on a website, could be some ones outfit, could be a photo, whatever!


I think I like the back better, after looking at the pics!

1-15-12 Question/Tag/Technique

Todays question is "What do you love most about where you live?" I wrote on the back how we have nice neighbors and how we are close to everything but still has that small town feeling.
Todays techinque is Alcohol Ink Mixatives
I used the gold when I inked the background but after it was dry it looked to bright. So I put some of the pearl on some felt and dabbed it all over and it really toned it down. I tried to get a good picture of it but it really doesn't show how awesome it looks! After I took the picture I didn't like the pin so I ended up taking it out. I used the numbers 27 because that is our house number. Also used some of the gold mixative on the tree.

1-8-12 Question/Tag/Technique

This weeks tag question is "If I could do it all again, would I change anything? My technique was stamping. The stamping was kind of lame I know, but I hardly ever stamp, and therefore have very few stamps. I did have the months and since this weeks question was about time, I felt it apprioprate. I covered the tag with some white paper, and sprayed some ink/perfect pearls on it. The little diamond is from Prima, and the chipboard clock is Bo Bunny. The butterfly sticker is Graphic 45. On the back I used MME tag and rubon.

1-1-12 Question/Tag/Technique

She did it in 2009. I am going to do a different techinque and a question a week for this year. On the front of the tag I am going to do a technique and on the back I am going to answer a question. I used a lot of the techniques that were on this blog but am changing them if I feel the need.

Here is my first tag. The question is "What do I wish for the New Year to bring?"
My technique was chipboard, and what I did was paint and distress chipboard. The chipboard pieces symbolize some of my wishes! Used Cosmo Cricket paper,Pink paisley chipboard, Maya Road Chipboard, Oriental Trading chipboard and the sun I don't know whose that was. Also found in my stash a metal Happy word that was purple, so I took a nail file and filed off the paint then use some Tim Holtz alcohol inks. Also found a little crystal butterfly.
On the back I used MME kraft and a 7gyspies tag. Trying to use stash wherever possible.

Tim Holtz tags

I've been making a few Tim Holtz tags but I wanted to show you how I used other things to get the same effect and you don't have to use all Ranger products. I LOVE Ranger products and I love Tim Holtz, but lets face it, I can't afford to buy every product out there! Well I could if I my son didn't need new clothes every 3 months, that kid is growing like a weed.

I made these two tag using a lot of the same techniques that Tim had, but some differences are, I made the numbers and the stencil letters out of chipboard cut from the cricut and painted them.

Also if you don't have the same embellishments that Tim uses, use what you have. I had those metallic pointesettias instead of using charms like Tim did. I used paper leaves too instead of the charms.

My favorite trick was this. I didn't have the Tim stamp (the one used on the first tag below) so this is what I did. Found an image on the internet, saved it to my desktop, opened up Excel and inserted the image. You can use whatever program you are good at, Photoshop, etc. I resized it to fit the tag, and then printed it on light blue cardstock and then attached it to my tag. Once it is inked and grunged up you cannot even tell if it was a stamp or not.

Although you can't see the musical notes on the one set of numbers and the calendar I did the same thing. I don't stamp much and therefore don't have a lot of stamps but this is a great way to get the stamp effect without buying a stamp you are only going to use once.





Here is Tim's tag from 2009. I think mine looks pretty close to his, except that picture was my son when he was little, not a very good picture but my son was screaming about Santa! lol Funniest thing is Santa is his oldest brother!


Also use what you have and be creative. I found these metallic letters in my stash and some old stickers. With a little creative imagination, I bent back the pointy things in the back and added the sticker letters, and used Glossy Accents on top to give it a shiny appearance. Also used Glossy Accents to hold the ring in the back so I could attach it to a safety pin. I also added a jingle bell, thought it looked festive! - Get creative!

Here is another tag, looks better IRL. It's sort of a take on this years tag, but instead of the embossing folder, I took the idea he had a couple of years ago and used chipboard letters. For mine I used leftover letters and instead of his foil wrap I used plain old heavy duty Reynolds wrap. I took me a couple of times, because it kept ripping, but I found if I crumpled it a little then took a small tool with a round head to smooth it, it worked fine.



Also I don't buy tags, I use chipboard and cut my own. Sometimes I cover them in cardstock if needed, and I always cover the back with a pp that matches.

As you can see I really messed up so I ripped the paper off, and started over on the front. After I am done with the tag I add paper to the back - it 'neatens' up the tag.



I have one more tag I made, actually it turned out great, only problem is I took it to work on Wednesday and hung it up and never got a picture. Have to remember to take my camera tomorrow to work.
